I am getting asked to update my BIOS. What do I do?

ESP routinely uses BigFix to update your computer's BIOS remotely. If you receive these prompts, please follow the steps to install the BIOS update and restart your computer.

Please consider the following:

  1. BIOS updates are important to meet UC/UC Davis cybersecurity policies.
  2. If you click the Get button to update your BIOS, your computer will restart automatically as part of the process
    1. Please make sure to save any open documents before starting the update
  3. If you do not click the Get button, if you close the prompt, snooze the prompt, or if you ignore the prompt, it will most likely automatically install and restart in a specific amount of time

Updating your Computer's BIOS

  1. You receive a prompt saying a BIOS update is available
  2. When you open the prompt, you are presented with a Get button
  3. The UC Davis Self-Service Application will update the status of the action from Starting to Running
  4. During the update, a message will also appear
  5. Once the update finishes, a message will appear and you will be prompted to restart the computer or the computer will automatically restart

    or
  6. Your computer will restart and you will see a black screen with a large white Dell logo in the middle
  7. Once the update finishes, you will be prompted with the Windows login screen
  8. Please login and proceed
  9. If you receive a message saying that the update Failed, please restart your computer, or contact ESP IT for assistance at support@des.ucdavis.edu or in 3108 Wickson
