How to Remotely Activate MatLab

MatLab can be installed and activated remotely. 

Steps

  1. Install MatLab
  2. Get the volume serial number to use as the Host ID
  3. Generate a license file
  4. Copy the license file to the licenses location of the MatLab installation folder

Install MatLab

  1. Can be installed silently using the FIK Method (if you have the executable installer, follow steps in Download Products Without Installing to extract installer compatible with FIK) and Install Noninteractively
  2. Note: extracted installer does not work with FIK and noninteractive. Need ISO installer.

Get the volume serial number

If you have access to the computer

Remotely using BigFix Analysis

Note: Displays C volume's serial number

if exists selects "VolumeSerialNumber from win32_logicaldisk WHERE Name = 'C:'" of wmis then string values of selects "VolumeSerialNumber from win32_logicaldisk WHERE Name = 'C:' " of wmis else "No C: volume"

Generate License File (Designated Computer)

  1. Log into Mathworks
  2. Go to your account
    https://www.mathworks.com/mwaccount/

  3. Go to your license
    https://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter/licenses/xxxxxx/xxxxxxx/activations

  4. Go to the Install and Activate tab

  5. Click on Activate to Retrieve License File

  6. If you've done one before, click on the Activate a Computer button. Or else, proceed to the next step

  7. Enter in the activation key

  8. Fill in the appropriate fields, enter in the Volume serial number (C drive) as the Host ID, and a label
    Note: Choose any Release version (backwards compatible)

  9. Select one

    1. If No
      Download the license file

    2. If Yes
      Download the license file

  10. Save the license file

Generate License File (Individual)

  1. Log into Mathworks
  2. Go to your account
    https://www.mathworks.com/mwaccount/

  4. Go to the Install and Activate tab

  5. Click on Activate to Retrieve License File

  6. If you've done one before, click on the Activate a Computer button. Or else, proceed to the next step

    Note: Choose any Release version (backwards compatible)

  8. Select one

    1. If No
      Download the license file

      Download the license file

  9. Save the license file

Activate MatLab

Copy the license file to the licenses location of the MatLab installation folder

C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R20xxx\licenses
